Sharon after serving as Family Pastor for many years and finally as Campus Pastor is now our Mission champion serving as Executive for New Day for Children. The mission here is clear and powerful, providing education, residential restorative care and therapeutic services to girls ages 10-18 who have been victimized by Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE). The goal is to care for the girls and help them recapture their childhood, while building their self-esteem and confidence.
I am a dad, a husband, a friend, and a leader of a community of people who like myself seek to follow the life and way of Jesus in Up, In and Out relationships. I am always learning more of what it means to be human in each of these areas, and I try to share this honestly in a spirit of genuine discipleship.
I love serving the kingdom with my brothers and sisters in Church Without Shoes, Jesus-honoring pastors of local churches. I serve with amazing people, many with stories of incredibly, radically changed lives. Some have found something more real and loving in Jesus than in anything or anywhere else and that is their great story.
At New Life, you will see signs of the Hawaiian Islands all around New Life. The islands have been a place of personal rest, renewal, re-creation and special relationship. Here in the East Bay of San Francisco, aloha is not far out of place and much needed. So at our New Life campus you will find the Aloha Spirit of Jesus front and center. Aloha is a bit like Shalom in the Hebrew. It means more than hello and goodbye; it has a deep-seated blessing of love, compassion, kindness and many more things Jesus was all about!
My hope is in my messages, you can see the life of Jesus, at least meagerly if not at times, powerfully reflected and be encourage to draw closer to Him in trust and faith. I hope the messages encourage you as you walk through the joys and tribulations of every day life, and I hope they inspire you to try to be more like Jesus with each step.
Grace to you, and peace. Aloha.
Tom got his first guitar at the age of 10, and began playing folk and blues music. By the time he was 14, Tom was playing in local bands and composing songs and instrumental music. He received a degree in classical guitar performance from Cal State Hayward in 1978 and since that time has taught and performed music locally and internationally. Also in 1978, Tom joined the team that planted Hope Center Covenant Church in Pleasant Hill. He served there as a worship director and associate pastor for 36 years. In 2014, Tom left his position at Hope Center to pursue a wide range of teaching, coaching and performing opportunities. He is grateful for the opportunity to help churches in the East Bay by serving as a guest preacher, worship leader or band member. Tom is investing at New Life as worship catalyst as he leads out in missional community serving housing challenged high school students through Hope Center. He says it gives him great joy to help people find fulfillment in serving God and others!
