Big Mo and My Story
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Hebrews
It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. 25 He chose to share the oppression of God's people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward. It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king's anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible. It was by faith that Moses commanded the people of Israel to keep the Passover and to sprinkle blood on the doorposts so that the angel of death would not kill their firstborn sons.
It was by faith that the people of Israel went right through the Red Sea as though they were on dry ground. But when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were all drowned. (Heb 11:24-29)

What is your faith doing?
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Hebrews
By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. - Heb 11:33-34

Discover Jesus
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Hebrews
What is it that makes a person a bad listener? Boredom and Pride. Part of the problem the people being written to in Hebrews 5 is that they already think they know what they need to know. Whatever it is they don't know (they don't need to know) they can do just fine without more input.

Jesus is Better - Part 5
by Pastor Ed Blake

For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done. --- Hebrews 4:12-13

Jesus is Better - Part 3
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Hebrews
Left alone we are more easily deceived by the seductive voice of sin which disguises, allures, legitimatizes, and readily supplies all the rationalizing we could ever require as it leads us along. Sin works to first deceive, then harden its victims and leave him in a helpless condition. Like the mythical story of Great Ulysses who attempted to navigate the Straits of the Sirens while securely lashed to the mast on the deck of his ship. The beautiful voice of the sirens beckoned him to the comfort of the shore while the surf crashes on the rocks below the high cliffs.

Jesus is Better
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Hebrews
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets at many times and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of his nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High --- Heb 1:1-3

The Kairos of Jesus Part 2
by Pastor Art Barrett
Series: Breakthrough
Worry in the eyes of God hinders our faith. Worry is evident by a lack of trust by calling into question whether or not God is sufficient to provide our needs. We can choose to worry and put God in a box, belittling Him by focusing on our circumstances and allowing them to become a Goliath. Or we can focus on the God who has revealed Himself in scripture and see how He has faithfully met the needs of His people.

Whom do you trust? Do you trust God to meet your day-to-day needs? Or do you trust money to meet your day-to-day needs? We know the right answer...but it's hard to live it out. Becoming a follower of Jesus means crossing the bridge between knowing what God says about an issue and doing something about it. It's the journey that begins when we start to change our thinking in response to God's prompting and continues into real belief, where we actually change behavior.
